On my first day my site manager said to me: “I went to uni, but to be honest, no matter how many years you spend studying, everyone’s first day on site is the same. There’s just some industries in which experience means than qualifications, and this is one of them”

This really did point out the advantages of an engineering apprenticeship to me. Im still gaining the qualifications I need, at a slower rate, but gaining the experience that I also need to learn. Being at work has allowed me to progress in terms of teamwork, leadership, responsibility and people skills! 😛 I’m also earning whilst I’m learning, so I’m not racking up any student loans… Apprenticeships are becoming more and more publicised and recognised as a real alternative to university!
